You might be asking: “What is 300 to 30″?
The 300 part…
Well, back in January, one of my 2008 goals, was to log a minimum of 200 days on the bike this year. Right now I’m just 20 days shy of that goal, and it’s only October (so not really a stretch goal after all). It occurred to me on the eve of my last year of being a “twenty-something,” that I wanted to spend this next year logging more miles, more time, and more days on the bike than I ever have before. So what better way than to step up and go for 300? Now I know there are people out there that have ridden 365 or have significantly more impressive streaks, but several trips abroad will cut into my available ride time in a big way this year, so I wanted to be realistic…
The “to 30″ part…
You guessed it, as of 10/3/2008, I’m turning 29 (happy birthday to me).
Anyway, I hope that over the next 365 days, I’m able to post up a fraction of the types of cool things I’ve been able to see and experience while logging the 180 or so days I’ve put in thus far in 2008 (e.g. amazing sunrises, random light-stunned nocturnal forest animals, epic vistas, ridiculous singletrack, etc.)
You can expect to see posts documenting epic rides throughout Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and possibly upstate New York.
Stories of my east coast singletrack exploits will be documented in word, photo and hopefully in video form once I hookup the helmet cam setup this winter.
Who the hell am I?
Well, my name is Dan Paulson and I live in northern VA just across the river from DC. I’m pretty new to the east coast having spent most of my life (and years on the bike) in the midwest. This is now the 9th state that I’ve called home, so I’m delighted to have found an incredible supply of gnarly singletrack throughout the region - more than anywhere else I’ve lived (ok, so I was 6 when I lived in CO so that doesn’t count). I ride both road and mountain and try to make every ride as memorable as possible, whether I’m riding the centerline through gridlock in downtown DC, or bombing a sickeningly technical rock chute in WV.
